 FDI investors’ say: 

• India is a potential market with great opportunities to flourish. Their business will boost up.
• The long-term investment would generate more than 4 Cr jobs and uplift the infrastructure and economical condition of India.

 Government’s philosophy: 

• Indian economy needs a big boost in infrastructure and employment which FDI can provide.
• The small framers and small scale enterprises would be most benefitted as they will get the ‘right’ price for their produce.
• The checks by government agencies such as CCI (Competition Commission of India) would be put in place to restrict the monopoly of foreign retailers.

 Opposition’s opposing: 

• The government is promoting its protégé by allowing FDI. The employment situation in the country will deteriorate.

However, the statistical data and history reveal a different story. In the countries such as United Kingdom, the employment showed a jump of more than 9% after FDI involvement. Surprisingly, both foreign retailers and small traders still co-exist in UK. The small grocery stores flourish on the individually customized ‘drop home’ facility. They also provide small credits at the month end and treat their loyal customers as family members which can never be expected from a retail giant. The fear of job loss would vanish once the middle men are assimilated into an organized retail sector. Organized retail sector will definitely increase the procurement rate from the small producers which are getting a meager sum for raw material. The FDI in any sector increases the level of competition and as a result, the end user avails better goods and services at cheaper price. The political parties should let go the personal and ideological difference and work hand in hand for the development of the country.
